Are You Ready:4 Things To Do and Remember During Your Lenten Season Fast

Lenten season is upon us!

Aside from the holiday season, the season of Lent is my favorite season! The season of Lent is a season where praying, fasting and reflecting in order to spiritually prepare for Resurrection Sunday takes precedence. I often hear people, young people especially, express their desires to commune with Christ and observe Lent, but aren't quite sure how to do so.  Here are 4 tips for your fast:

1. Educate Yourself

There are many different types of fasts and there are many different ways to fast. Selecting your type of fast and the length in which you fast, rests solely on what you believe to be best for you and your purpose for fasting.

2. Be Dedicated To Your Fast

Fasting should be a time where you allow your spirit to focus and become one with The Lord. Although it may present some difficulty in the beginning, it is important to remain dedicated to your fast in order to meet the objectives of your fast. (Matthew 6:16-18)

3. Allow Your Fast To Be Between You and The Lord

Beware of those you share your fast with. Many people will not understand or respect your fast. Constantly revealing to others that you're fasting may also come off as boasting, thus taking away from the true reason behind your fast. (Matthew 6:6)

4. Don't complain

My very first Lenten fast was a fast from all things processed with added sugar... Candy, juice, cakes, cookies, you name it. I promised myself that for the entire Lenten season, I would fast from those things because I conditioned my mind to believe that I needed to satisfy my sweet tooth every day. I knew it was going to be difficult, but what I didn't know was how much I was going to complain. I complained to my family, friends, coworkers, social media; I basically complained to anyone that would listen. As I went through my fast, I later learned that all of the complaining I did was a complete waste of time... it also made it harder for me to appreciate the season.
( Philippians 2:14 )

Applying these tips to my past Lenten seasons have certainly made the experiences more spiritually fulfilling for me. These tips have also allowed my relationship with The Lord to exceed anything I imagined. I hope these practices prepare you for your Lenten season and a season of grace and favor.

Until next time, peace and blessings

Gracefully yours,

Chinyere
